TEMPE, Ariz.- McClintock Chargers solidified a five-game win streak and took pride in their home-field advantage against the Cienega Bobcats 40-to-14.

On Thursday, Sept. 26, the Chargers set up for their second home game of the season at Jim Lyons Field. The Chargers had pressure on them coming into the game, as they were sitting undefeated. Last season, the Chargers went 6-and-4 and could not make it to the playoffs.

“Everyone’s disrespecting us and I think that it’s time we get that respect back,”Amari Scroggins, a senior for McClintock, said.

This season, the Chargers decided to take charge and amplify new beginnings with many upperclassmen returning. McClintock had six touchdowns in the game and two were attributed to senior, Kemon Jackson and junior, Khalil Bender.

The Bobcats struggled to get the ball down to their endzone in the first quarter. The Chargers made their first touchdown with a one-handed catch from Scroggins. Their second touchdown was made complete by junior, Edward Walker. In an attempt to gain XP, the Chargers failed to get a two-point conversion, resulting in the end of the first being 13-to-0.

For the return to the second quarter, the Chargers grant two more touchdowns both from Bender and Jackson. With two minutes remaining, McClintock makes a game-changing play with a complete pass from quarterback, Jaxon Knutson to Jackson. Chargers end the second 34-to-0.

Entering the third quarter, the Bobcats remain scoreless, and the Chargers drive another touchdown from Bender to remain 40-to-0. In a fight to get back in the game, the fourth quarter shakes things up.

The Bobcats make a minor comeback with two touchdowns from senior, Gabriel Lopez and junior, Carmello Davis. PAT is awarded to the Bobcats by their kicker, Zane Colson. The clock is running, and the Bobcats will not secure the victory falling to the Chargers 40-to-14.

Yards for the Chargers reached ample numbers as quarterback, Knutson totaled 403 yards, Scroggins up next on the leaderboard with 158 receiving yards, and Bender with 113 receiving yards. As for the Bobcats, Lopez totaled 133 yards, and junior, Julian Hainley followed up with 78 yards.

“A lot of people have been doubting us from last year saying that we weren’t going to be good, that we’re not going to make playoffs again,” Scroggins said, “I think that we made a statement today, beating a team last year that knocked us out of the playoffs.”

The Chargers will hit the field away on Thursday, Oct. 3 against the Skyline Coyotes in Mesa, Arizona. Kick-off will be at 7 p.m. and the Chargers will look to keep their win-streak.
